Amelia Island Jazz Festival

World-class jazz music returns to Amelia Island during the week of October 3-10 for the 18th annual Amelia Island Jazz Festival.  The festival presents jazz in many styles, including swing, bebop, Dixieland, big band, Latin and contemporary. Music is performed by jazz greats, as well as fresh, up-and-coming young talent. Performances are staged in several unique venues around Amelia Island. The 2021 festival kicks off on October 3 with a free "Jazz in the Park" community concert at Amelia Park from 2 to 4 pm featuring the UNF Jazz Ensemble 2 directed by Dennis Marks. (Bring your lawn chairs and blankets!) Wednesday, October 6 is Jump, Jive and Wail / Swing Night Concert and Dance at Sadler Ranch from 7 to 10 pm. Featuring The Dynamic Les DeMerle Little Big Band with Bonnie Eisele vocals, Steve Strawley trumpet, Clarence Hines trombone, Don Zentz  saxophone, Doug Matthews piano, Ernie Ealum bass and Les DeMerle drums. Bring your sweetheart and dance the night away! Fiery Spanish flamenco guitar pyrotechnics fuse with hot, Pop Latin dance grooves sung by soulful, sultry vocals, at the Latin Jazz Concert and Dance featuring Trio Caliente October 7 at Sadler Ranch from 7 to 10 pm.  Trio Caliente unites and inspires audiences around the globe with their inimitable blend of Flamenco, Pop, and Latin Dance Music. The Friday headliner at the 2021 Amelia Island Jazz Festival is legendary Jazz Clarinetist and Saxophonist Ken Peplowski.  One of the most recorded jazz players to date, with over 50 CDs as soloist and nearly 400 as a featured sideman, Ken Peplowski has performed with Charlie Byrd, Mel Tormé, Rosemary Clooney, Hank Jones, Peggy Lee, Bill Charlop, Woody Allen, Benny Goodman and many other legendary musicians.  Peplowski will perform at the Courtyard Amelia Island/Springhill Suites by Marriott from 7 to 10 pm. Headlining the Saturday night performance of the festival is John Pizzarelli.  As a Great American Songbook flame-keeper, vocalist and guitarist, John Pizzarelli's unpretentious, song-centered approach has earned wide crossover success during a career that includes numerous tribute recordings honoring both jazz and pop artists. This performance will be held at the Courtyard Amelia Island/Springhill Suites by Marriott from 7 to 10 pm. The festival concludes on Sunday October 10 with a Dixie to Swing Jazz Brunch featuring the Spare Rib Six at the Courtyard Amelia Island/Springhill Suites by Marriott at 10:30 am.
